Singapore 1: My First Anniversary

It's been a year since I decided to come to Singapore and look for a job. That time there were a lot of companies with vacancies. It only took me 3 weeks to get a job, 1 week for my pass processing and exactly one month after I came, I started working.

My first few months on my new company was a little rough. I came from a very different engineering field. I used to work in building construction and now its all about instrumentation and other oil and gas things. I thought I was not gonna last. I was thinking that its either I quit or they're going to fire me. Good thing I have a very patient colleague who has taught me everything I know related to our job now. I am also glad that I learned all these, there's no need to go back to work in my previous industry.

Our company has applied me for a 12 month only pass last year. Meaning to say, I need to renew this month. Butterflies in my stomach started to fly every time I think of the renewal. I have heard  a lot of stories from friends about passes getting rejected. I have given the necessary documents to our HR on the first week of April. I waited for a week but there was no result. Another week and still nothing. On the third week I was called in for a meeting with my boss. They have informed me that my renewal was rejected! OMG! I wanted to die at the moment. A lot of travel plans have been made. Too too many plans. THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING TO ME!! Especially now. I mean, who in the world would want to lose their job, right? My boss however reassured me that they will support me all the way till I get approved.

They reapplied me. The waiting was hell. It was so stressful! First day after application, the site states Pending status. Second day, still pending. Third day, same. Oh no! I have no plans of looking for a new job yet! On the fourth day, I  was already feeling sick. On that day, after showering I checked the status from my mobile. Wahooo! It was approved! I took a really really deep breath and went to office in my usual happy self. God has heard my prayers.

It's my first anniversary living here in Singapore. Life's been good so far and with my renewed pass, it'll be even better. Cheers!
